I know that everyone wants to enjoy New Year's Eve and pop off some celebratory fireworks, we do too. This evening, there were at least two confirmed fires in our neighborhood. One was a house fire where the garage caught fire and it took at least three fire engines to get it under control. The other was this one which was burning across the creek out our back gate that looks onto the back retention pond. Had the grass been dryer or even just a touch longer, this could've been disastrous. These folks were able to get the fire out without the assistance of the fire department which was lucky since no one answered when we called 911...TWICE. So just keep in mind when you're at the stands on the fourth of July that as much fun as fireworks are to pop, they can be just as dangerous if not handled properly. Be sure to keep them a safe distance from homes and property and even if you aren't shooting them yourself, consider spraying your homes and lawns with water if you think your neighbors will be.
